To the Editor:— I should like to comment on the article by Dr. Leon Felderman entitled "Syphilis of the Larynx: Report of an Atypical Case" (Arch. Dermat. & Syph. [Oct.] ). The history and observations in this case, even with the negative serologic reactions and the apparent improvement under bismuth therapy, might lead to a presumptive diagnosis of syphilis of the larynx but. It is observed in all its different stages and may be either hereditary or acquired. It is classed as (a) the primary lesion, (b) the secondary, including the erythema, mucous patch and superficial ulcer, and (c) Author: Charles M.

Robertson. Causes of larynx syphilis. Syphilis is a venereal disease caused by a pale treponema discovered in by in and nn. In rare cases with syphilis of the larynx, the primary affect (chancre) is localized on the epiglottis and cherpalodnagortane fold, where the pathogen comes from an external source of infection through the oral cavity with saliva.

The larynx likewise is commonly affected in early syphilis. The pharynx nearly always escapes. The reason of this is not obvious, for there is no natural incapacity in the part; mucous patches and erythema are occasionally seen on the posterior wall of the pharynx.

Diagnosis of pharynx syphilis in the secondary period, carried out only on the basis of an endoscopic picture, is not always an easy task, since a large number of diseases of the oral cavity and pharynx of a non-specific nature can compete in appearance with the same number of atypical oropharyngeal forms of the second syphilis period.
